NUVO Cleaning Guidelines

Always follow the recommendations of your local disease prevention center and health authorities. The following recommendations are provided to properly disinfect NUVO instruments.

1. Hot Soap and Water

Unlike traditional woodwind and brass instruments, NUVO instruments can be fully submerged in a hot soap and water mixture. This is a very effective way to ensure that the entire instrument’s surface (both inside and out) is cleaned. The reeds, mouthpieces, lip plates and headjoints can also be fully submerged. Allow the instruments and mouthpieces to air dry.

2. Dishwasher

NUVO instruments can be cleaned using the top rack of the dishwasher. However, please DO NOT use the heated dry cycle as this can damage adhesive parts and thin plastic edges. Allow the instruments to air dry. If adhesive parts should separate during the cleaning process, the parts can easily be replaced.

3. Alcohol Wipes and Mouthpiece Cleaners

You can use any mouthpiece cleaner on NUVO instruments as well as alcohol wipes. We recommend wiping off the mouthpieces with an alcohol wipe at the beginning and end of each class. More thorough washing with hot water or the dishwasher can be done between classes.

The donut head joint is an alternative head joint option for the jFlute or Student Flute. Basically, it uses the same technology as the curved head joint but condenses it into a small donut looking shape. The benefits are that the head joint is always in line (no messing with moving curved head joints) and it also brings the flute in closer to the body for smaller reaches. It comes in white or black and is compatible with both the jFlute and Student Flute.
