Celebrating 30 Years of Music!

This year, we are celebrating three decades of incredible memories, milestones, and music. As we reflect on the past and look forward to the future, we can’t help but feel immense appreciation for our customers. Thank you for being an integral part of our musical adventure!

It all started in 1994. Fueled by a passion for music and a vision to make quality orchestral and band instruments and accessories accessible to Canadians, George Ulmann founded Counterpoint Musical Services, a Canadian musical wholesale distribution company focusing on personal, friendly service.

The company was started by George Ullmann and Jean-Marie Barker, former colleagues at Boosey and Hawkes Canada. In the beginning, Counterpoint encompassed both a wholesale distribution and a rental musical library and publishing division.  In 2008, Jean-Marie bought the publishing division from George and it continues to operate today as Counterpoint Music Library Services.  At that time, Counterpoint represented such brands as Thomastik-Infeld, Wittner, Superslick, Blessing and Bohemia violins. Over the years, it has expanded to represent more than 80 brands, including some of the industry’s most respected and in-demand products including Thomastik-Infeld, Pirastro, Stentor, Légère reeds, Wittner, Bam cases, BG France, Rovner, Kun, Harpsicle Harps and Seydel Harmonicas.

In 2012, Adam Berlin purchased the company from George Ulmann and has continued the mission to offer top-quality products and friendly customer service.

Today, Counterpoint Music stands as a trusted and preferred wholesale distributor in the Canadian orchestral and band music scene. The company's commitment to quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction has solidified its reputation as a go-to resource for musicians, retailers, and industry professionals alike.

To commemorate our 30th anniversary, we will be releasing an exclusive anniversary Canadian collection of best-selling products we’re sure your customers will love. Stay tuned to get them before they’re gone!
